Io — virtual 3D perspective from Juno Perijove 57

A virtual 3D view of Jupiter’s moon Io, created from a JunoCam image acquired during Juno’s Perijove 57 flyby.

The original image was projected onto a front spherical shell to preserve the apparent geometry of the disk, with subtle image-based relief added from grayscale values. This is not a measured digital terrain model, but an artistic-scientific visualization based on a single spacecraft image.

The 3D projection allows new virtual viewing angles of Io’s colorful volcanic surface, while remaining tied to the original image data.
